meditation tips on how to overcome fear

FEAR is nothing more than a state of mind that can be changed with a positive outlook, says a meditation expert.

"When we practise meditation, we become stronger inside as our inner positive energy is released," said Bahrain Meditation Centre's head teacher Ansuya Sunku.

"Meditation helps us become more calm and peaceful and express our inner selves".

She was speaking ahead of a seminar on Living without Fear, to be held today at the centre in Adliya.

Ms Sunku will be teaching participants how to conquer everyday fears through meditation.

"Through meditation we find the strength to recognise our fears as challenges rather than threats," she told the GDN. "Everyone is living with some level of fear - whether it is the stress of your job, fear of future or of increasing crime levels."

Ms Sunku believes "all fear starts with a fear of loss - loss of your job, someone you care about, status or identity, anything that you feel attached to".

"We are surrounded by fear and even parents can pass it on to their children."

She said people should be optimistic to get rid of fear. "You can become free if you take control of yourself, be positive and be brave. Meditation can help you to do that."

The seminar will begin at 7pm.

The centre will also hold a seminar on Maintaining Balance in Life, on December 29 at 7pm. It will look at ways to deal with the many demands and challenges people face every

day.

The centre will also hold a foundation course in meditation on Tuesday.
