Asry clamp on official

MANAMA: A senior Asry official at the centre of a corruption probe has been denied access to his office or any company paperwork, it emerged yesterday.

The Bahraini official was one of the two suspended by the company last week, following an audit into alleged financial irregularities.

He returned from a month's leave abroad on Wednesday night and asked for any mail to be sent from his office to his home, said sources.

The staff said a circular went out from the board yesterday instructing staff that the official was not to be allowed access to his office, his mail or any other company papers.

A senior Arab colleague was remanded in custody for a week on Monday accused of cheating the company of more than BD37,000 over four years.

It is understood that the accusation relates to unauthorised spending on a company credit card.
