 Cage nabs jacket thief

LOS ANGELES: An intruder broke into Nicolas Cage's home near Los Angeles, and put on one of his leather jackets before he was confronted by the actor.

Robert Furo was charged with residential burglary and remanded to jail on $100,000 (BD37,800) bail, after allegedly breaking into Cage's oceanfront home in Newport Beach, said the local district attorney's spokeswoman Farrah Emami.

"The defendant is accused of breaking into the home of Cage ... and wearing his jacket" early on Monday, she said.

"Cage woke up, asked the intruder to remove the jacket and escorted him outside," apparently without a struggle, called the police and had him arrested, the spokeswoman added.

Furo yesterday pleaded not guilty to a first-degree burglary charge. Emami said the suspect has no prior criminal record and faces up to six years in prison if found guilty of the charges.

Newport Beach police's Craig Fox said there was no sign of a break-in, and he did not know what led Furo to Cage's home.
