MANAMA: An Indian man, who was allegedly assaulted by three Bahraini youngsters, underwent a life-saving surgery at the Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC).
The 22-year old, identified only as Suresh, was attacked by the trio at a Manama pharmacy late on Thursday night.
He was brought by the police to the Accident and Emergency department after they were alerted by the pharmacy staff, sources told the GDN yesterday.
The incident took place when Mr Suresh emerged from a nearby hotel at around midnight and went into the pharmacy to get some medicines, sources said.
"The trio apparently followed him in and as he took out his wallet to pay, they pounced on him."
When Mr Suresh resisted; one of them hit him with an iron rod. "As he collapsed, another youngster took his mobile phone and the three fled the scene."
The sources also said the mobile phone was recovered later from the parking lot outside the pharmacy. Hoora police have registered a case.
Doctors said yesterday Mr Suresh was now in stable condition. "He is no longer on the critical list but will take a long time to recover fully."
