 Sowing seeds of show's success

AL Hawaj Group will participate at the Riffa Views Bahrain International Garden Show 2008 (RVBIGS 2008) for the fourth consecutive year.

RVBIGS 2008 will be held from February 22 to 24 at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre (BIEC).

The event is organised by the Bahrain Exhibition and Convention Authority (BECA) under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad and support of his wife and chairwoman of the Supreme Council for Women, Her Highness Shaikha Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa.

Al Hawaj confirmed their participation at a signing ceremony attended by Al Hawaj managing director Jawad Al Hawaj, deputy general manager Abdul Wahab Al Hawaj, Shaikha Sabeeka's office director Shaikha Maram bint Isa bin Ahmad Al Khalifa and BECA and RVBIGS senior sales officer Mahesh Bhatia.

Al Hawaj has been a strong supporter of the show since it was launched in 2004.

Each year, the area occupied by the Al Hawaj stand exceeds the area booked in the previous year and surpasses the creativity it has demonstrated in the past.

Under the theme "Scented Gardens", RVBIGS 2008 will feature a wide array of aromatic plants from different parts of the globe with climates similar to that of Bahrain.

Landscapes created by noted designers will turn BIEC into an indoor floral and herbal paradise for garden and horticulture enthusiasts.

Regional and international buyers, floriculture and garden equipment manufacturers and suppliers and agriculture, horticulture and aquaculture research organisations will take part in the three-day event.

RVBIGS 2008 will serve as the meeting point for high-level regional and international buyers, gardening and horticulture suppliers, commercial delegations, diplomats, environmental organisations and their advocates and regional farmers. Promoting environmental sustainability in the region will continue to be a key of the show.

Competitions

The show also features several competitions, three of which are organised by the RVBIGS committee, including Her Highness Shaikha Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa's prize for Pottery, Scientific Research and Furniture Building.

Another main attraction in the upcoming show is the new school gardening competition launched by Riffa Views, called The Eden Challenge, which targets all schools in Bahrain.

The competition will be judged by a group of experts including Chris Beardshaw, a renowned garden designer, author and host of the BBC's Flying Gardener.

RVBIGS will also showcase the Bahrain Garden Club's 43rd Annual Amateur Flower and Vegetable Show.

It includes various competitions including the best garden, open flower, vegetable and fruit, experimental gardening and flower and vegetable arrangement for different age groups.
