Court clears Rhys Meyers

DUBLIN: Judicial authorities have dropped charges against Irish-born film star Jonathan Rhys Meyers of being drunk and disorderly after an incident at Dublin airport, a spokesman said yesterday.

Rhys Meyers, 30, had been charged with public order offences and abusive behaviour at the airport when he was due to board a flight to London on November 18.

Because the charges were not pursued, Rhys Meyers escapes without any criminal record, said a spokesman for the Courts Service.

Two days after Rhys Meyers' arrest, his mother died after a short illness.

Last year Ireland introduced an "adult cautioning" scheme where the authorities can decide it would not be in the public interest to pursue a prosecution.

Rhys Meyers is being dealt with under the scheme and will receive a caution from a senior police officer.

Rhys-Meyers has starred in several films including Woody Allen's Match Point and Mission Impossible III.
