A ROBBER who clubbed a man to the ground for just BD6 and his mobile phone was jailed for three years by the High Criminal Court yesterday.
The 28-year-old Bahraini man attacked his Bangladeshi victim as he walked down a road in Tubli in June, the court heard.
He ran at the 33-year-old victim, grabbed his shirt and demanded money, said the prosecution.
When the victim refused, the attacker punched him repeatedly and clubbed him to the ground with a piece of wood, the court heard.
As the victim lay on the ground, the attacker snatched his mobile phone and his wallet, which contained BD6 and 5fils.
Medical reports said the victim's injuries were consistent as he was repeatedly punched and beaten with a piece of wood.
"The bruising on his face shows that he was punched several times and the markings on his body are consistent with markings made by a wooden object," read the medical report.
When the victim described his attacker to police, they recognised him as a previous offender, the court heard.
Police sources contacted the defendant after they received information that he was selling a stolen mobile phone.
They met him in an alleyway in Isa Town. When police swooped on him, he escaped, but was arrested soon after, read court documents.
The victim identified his attacker from a police line-up, but the defendant denied the charge.
However, he pleaded guilty after prosecutors summoned witnesses who claimed they saw the attack take place, the court heard.
