MANAMA: The volume of Bahrain's overall commercial imports from Italy topped BD2.42 billion ($6.42bn) in 2007.
The figures were released as Industry and Commerce Minister Dr Hassan Fakhro yesterday received Italian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Stefania Craxi and stressed Bahrain's keenness to boost co-operation.
A presentation by external trade relations director Eman Al Dosary also revealed that Bahrain's exports to Italy amounted to BD1.12bn.
Bahrain imports mainly polished ceramics, jewellery, textile products, furniture and garment.
Exports include aluminium rods and sheets, methanol, jewellery and cotton garment.
A total of 204 registered dealerships are based in Bahrain. They operate in the sectors of pharmacy and furniture mainly.
Seven branches representing Italian banks, engineering and oil firms also operate in Bahrain.
Twenty-five other companies are active in the sectors of restaurant, interior designs and legal consultancy.
