 What on earthÉ?

I read with disgust the report, "Rape 'harmless fun' says lawyer" (GDN, March 4).

I cannot believe that the lawyer is trying to quash her clients' charges by stating that the abduction, gang rape and robbing of a young woman is just children having fun.

What on earth is this place coming to?

These animals should not be let off the hook by this laughable defence. I think it's fair to say that we all at some time or the other have done naughty things for fun in our youth.

I was raised in a society which considers rape an act of pure evil.

What message will this send to the youth of Bahrain if these criminals get off free?

It will let the whole nation know that it is OK to kidnap and rape as long as you are a "youth" and there was no harm intended.

How on earth can you forcibly have sex with someone against their will and not cause any harm?

The report says that "young" people commit crimes for fun which made me wonder how old these "kids" are. Further in the report it stated that the defendants are aged 19, 20 and 21.

They are not youths, they are young adults who knew well that what they were doing was wrong!

Maybe the "youths" of Bahrain should start robbing banks and when they get caught hire the services of this lawyer to plead not guilty because it was just for fun.

There is conclusive DNA evidence against all the defendants.

If it is true, then it's an open and shut case. These neanderthals must be punished to send a real message to the youth of Bahrain that sickening acts of pure evil will not be tolerated.

It makes me wonder how this case would be approached if the victim was a Bahraini. I am sure this "lawyer" would be singing a much different tune.

My thoughts go out to the poor girl and I hope that she is strong enough to get past the ordeal these savages put her through.

I seriously doubt I would be able to if I were in her shoes.
