 Kamal-Odrious pair win  

AHMED Kamal and his Lithuanian partner Odrious continued their outstanding form and posted their second straight victory in the men's doubles of the Marcom Gulf Summer Tennis Championship, being held at the Bahrain Tennis Club in Juffair. The pair won their Group 'B' match against Ahmed Hamdy and Hamed Fakhro 6-4, 6-3 in on of the tournament's most exciting encounters.

Kamal and Odrious now lead this group with four points from two matches while the pair of Hamdy and Fakhro went down to second with three points from two games after suffering their first defeat.

In Group 'C', the pair of Mahmood Al Shhehabi and Mohammed Al Mosawi remained on top with four points after a convincing 6-0, 6-0 win over Sami Dannish and Abdullatif Kamal.

Hussain Al Makharraq teamed up with India's Cassius Perreira to win their crucial Group 'A' match against Mohammed Al Suwaieh and Ali Abdulrauf 6-3, 6-1 and claim the lead in Group 'A', also with four points to their credit.

It was the first defeat for the pair of Al Suwaieh and Abdulrauf, who was granted entry after Al Suwaieh's original partner Fayez Abu Hatab had to pull out before the tournament due to an injury.

In the men's super doubles category, Jaffar brothers pair of Mohammed and Ahmed lived up to expectations, winning their match against Fahad Al Hassan and Ali Ahmed Fakhro 6-1, 6-3.

Clashes

Meanwhile, the club's courts will host four matches today, including two in the men's super doubles and two in the men's doubles sections.

In the men's super doubles, Nasser Khonji and his partner Yousef Al Qaud will be hoping to stay on course towards a berth in the semi-finals as they face off with the pair of Arash Saidi and Siddiq Barkawi.

In the same section, Hassan Al Khonaizi will team up with his younger brother Hussain today when they clash with the pair of Fahad Al Hassan and Ali Fakhro.

Today's men's doubles section will see Ismail Al Marhoon and his teammate Khalid Kamal play against Karim Awladi and Eyad Tafii in a crunch Group 'A' game.

Mohammed Nasser and Abdulrahman Thani will also be seen in action tonight facing the pair of Sami Dannish and Abdullatif Kamal in a postponed match of Group 'C'.

A total of 16 players are taking part in the men's doubles and were divided into two groups of four pairs.

The pairs are competing it out in round robin matches with each group winners and runners-up qualifying for the semi-finals knock-out stage. Thirty players are in the fray for the men's super doubles, making up 15 pairs. Participants were placed into three groups of five pairs. This category also features round robin matches in the first round with each group winners and runners-up, plus the best two third place teams will qualify for the quarter-finals.
