A NUTRITION expert campaigning against the use of the swine flu vaccination is to be investigated by the Health Ministry.
Alia Almoayed is to be investigated by the ministry's Licensure Directorate, over whether she has overstepped professional boundaries.
The action was announced yesterday by primary care and public health assistant under-secretary Dr Mariam Al Jalahma, during a Press conference on the arrival of the vaccine in Bahrain.
Dr Al Jalahma did not initially name Ms Almoayed, but confirmed that she was the subject of the inquiry when pressed by journalists.
Ms Almoayed has been at the forefront of a campaign to highlight the reported dangers of the vaccine, quoting medical experts the world over.
She has also contributed articles on the issue to the GDN.
"The ministry's Licensure Directorate has now launched an investigation to see whether she is qualified to speak on the subject," said Dr Al Jalahma.
"As far as we know, she is an expert on nutrition, so she should stick to her subject."
Dr Al Jalahma also said the investigation would look into allegations that Ms Almoayed was running an "anti-vaccination programme" and charging people to take part in it.
"We will get to the bottom of this soon."
Ms Almoayed would not comment yesterday.
Ms Almoayed, an author, lecturer and health expert, writes health articles for various publications, holds lectures and seminars on health and nutrition and heads a number of weight loss projects.
She is the author of I Want Healthy Kids, a book on how to raise healthy children and The Dream Body Eating Plan, a weight loss guide.
Ms Almoayed is also the co-author of 101 Ways to Improve Your Health.
