abu dhabi: His Majesty King Hamad yesterday visited Abu Dhabi's Yas Marina Circuit.
The visit coincided with the 2009 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Formula One races which kick off tomorrow.
On arrival at the circuit, His Majesty was received by Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces General Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Adviser Shaikh Haza'a bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Amiri Air Organisation president Shaikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Premier and Presidential Affairs Minister Shaikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Electricity and Water Authority chairman Shaikh Dhiab bin Zayed Al Nahyan, head and members of F1 Supreme Organising Committee and the circuit's senior officials.
His Majesty was briefed on the circuit's history, facilities and local and international sports activities. He expressed his admiration for the facility and said it would boost motor sports in the region.
This adds to the many achievements of the prosperous era of UAE President Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and rulers of all emirates, His Majesty said.
He also stressed the need for co-operation between Bahrain International Circuit, which won the Best Organisation Award in 2004, and Yas Marina Circuit.
His Majesty returned home later yesterday after the friendly visit to The UAE, during which he also held talks with the UAE Vice-President, Deputy Premier and Dubai Ruler Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
