 New Pindar boats arrive

TEAM Pindar, one of the world's leading independent sailing teams, and its logistics partner GAC announced yesterday the arrival of two 60 foot Volvo boats in Bahrain, marking the first phase of the Sail Bahrain project.

Sail Bahrain offers unique sailing experiences in Bahrain and throughout the Gulf. Operated by Team Pindar, both Volvo 60s are available for corporate hospitality, team-building and yacht charter initiatives.

Based in Amwaj Marina, the boats also offer a platform for marketing opportunities at key locations throughout the Gulf.

The two Volvo 60s, which weigh in at 30 gross tons, left Southampton in the UK on 27 September and yesterday arrived at Amwaj Marina, Bahrain. A team of experts from GAC - the world's leading provider of shipping, logistics and marine services - handled their journey from start to finish.

The yachts rank among the elite in yacht racing, having gained fame after each circumnavigating the world.

"We are delighted to announce the arrival of the Volvo 60s-part of the Sail Bahrain project," said Chairman of the Pindar Group and founder of Sail Bahrain Andrew Pindar. "Along with our logistical partners, GAC, we are excited to bring two yachts which rank amongst the most powerful ocean racing yachts in the world to Amwaj Marina."

"The Kingdom of Bahrain has a rich maritime history and Sail Bahrain aims to create a new and exciting future for sailing and Watersports in the kingdom. Having the Volvo 60's here is the first step, with future plans including an intention to develop an iconic yacht club on par with those which grace other leading maritime countries in the Mediterranean and elsewhere along with a youth education programme," added Pindar.

"We are proud to be involved and associated with the Sail Bahrain initiative. Bringing the two Volvo 60 racing yachts here gives locals and visitors alike a unique opportunity to get a taste of the very best of ocean racing," said GAC Bahrain managing director Peter Gronberg.

"But there is much more to Sail Bahrain than bringing these spectacular boats in the kingdom, and here at GAC we are delighted to be involved in this exciting project which offers sailing and Watersports education as well as the chance for Bahrainis to engage from beginner level through to developing world championship sailing skills."
