A CLASSICAL music and dance concert will take place at Indian Club, Gudaibiya, at 8pm tomorrow.
The club has joined hands with Indian Fine Arts Society (IFAS) and Bahrain chapter of India-based cultural organisation Soorya Stage and Film Society to hold the event as part of its Grand Eid programme.
Fusion music group Laya Shakthi, featuring Ustad Rashid Mustafa (tabla), Ustad Nazir Khan (sarangi) and percussionists Prem Kumar Arunachalam (mridangam) and Fateh Singh Gangani (pakhawaj), will perform.
The second half of the concert will include a Kathak duet dance by couple Hari and Chetna and a Bharathanatyam dance recital by student Keerthi.
Khan is son of renowned tabla player Ustad Yaseen and first learned under the tutelage of his grandfather Ustad Siddique Ahmed and Ustad Ghulam Sabir Khan.
He later trained under
sarangi maestro Padmashri Ustad Sabri Khan.
Hari and Chethna have performed at more than 500 concerts in India, the UK, Germany, France, Switzerland, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and the Middle East.
The two-hour show will take place at the auditorium and entry is free to all club and IFAS members as well as Soorya Card holders.
Meanwhile, the club's entertainment committee will present a skit, Ebrahim's Love for Allah and the Burnt Sacrifice, at 8pm on Friday.
It is based on a story from the Quran about a holy man, Ebrahim, who is forced to sacrifice his only son to prove his love.
The club is also holding a Qawwali Night at the same venue at 8pm on Friday.
Local Indian band the Music City Orchestra will join singers to present devotional music.
