SAAD Almaran notched a brilliant double in the second round of the Bahrain National Drag Racing Championship at the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) in Sakhir, reports PATRICK SALOMON.
Almaran won both the Pro Mod and the Outlaw Rear-Wheel-Drive (RWD) categories in which over 80 drivers took part.
The round was organised and run by the Bahrain Drag Racing Club (BDRC) in coordination with the Bahrain Motor Federation and BIC.
There was plenty of drama in the 10 categories for cars as each driver, headlined by Almaran, put in their best efforts to subdue the opposition.
Almaran claimed victory in the Pro Mod defeating Khalil Ansari of the UAE in. They were the only two drivers competing in the Pro Mod.
Earlier, Almaran clinched the Outlaw RWD beating Ali Abdulla in the final race. Mohammed Al Ansari of the UAE finished third as the best losing semi-finalist.
In the Outlaw Front-Wheel-Drive (FWD), Ibrahim bin Hasher of the UAE was the winner. He beat Adel Salem in the final race while Abdulrahman bin Hasher was third.
In the Street FWD class, Mohammed Saleh was first ahead of runner-up Abbas Saleh. Salman Faisal captured third place. In the Street RWD, Sayed Ahmed Hashim was the winner. He beat Jamal Ibrahim Mohammed in the finale, while Mohammed Bahman was third.
In the Street V8, Kuwaiti driver Ahmed Al Zaabi of STS Team provided a strong run in his Mustang by surprising the field and racing to victory. Adel Khameeri was second and Duaij Sanad third.
In the Super Street FWD, Ali Moosa claimed first place while Jassim Qambar finished second and Zakaraia Kooheji third. In the Super Street RWD, Youssef Abdulla prevailed over runner-up Salman Taqi. Mohammed Saqib was third.
In the Super Street V8, Mohammed Jassim Al Shihabi was the victor. Mezeher Altanak of Kuwait was second and Mohammed Shomali third.
In the 7.5 class, Muslim Qallaf from Saudi Arabia in a '72 Camaro which he was using in the championship for the first time was first, Adel Shaji in an unique top fuel-like car was second and Ali Hamza third.
Meanwhile, races in three classes for motorbikes were also held at the quarter-mile drag strip of the BIC.
The Street Bike category was won by Bader Bin Eidan who overcame Ahmed Hamdan of Saudi Arabia. Khalid Al Dosari, also of Saudi Arabia, was third.
In the Super Street Bike, Mishari Al Turki of Saudi Arabia captured first place while Hattan Al Abadi from Qatar was the runner-up. Kazem Al Ali of Kuwait was third.
In the Pro Bike category, Kuwait's Mohammed Bu Rashid beat compatriot Mohammed Al Yaqoot for the top place while Hassan Buneen from Saudi Arabia was third.
BDRC vice-president Abdulla Jassim Al Thani and Bahrain Motorcycle Club president Isa Al Awadi presented the winners with their trophies.
