UN urged to condemn Zionist aggression

MINISTER of State for Foreign Affairs Ghanim Al Buainain attended the 39th session of the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation (OIC) Foreign Ministers' Council, which opened in Djibouti yesterday.

Addressing the two-day meetings, the minister called upon the UN Security Council to condemn the brutal Israeli assault on Gaza Strip.

He outlined Bahrain's stance on key issues of concern at this critical moment, urging wisdom and thoughtfulness in addressing them for the sake of Islamic unity and solidarity.

The Palestinian cause topped the agenda of the session, which also discussed the Arab-Israeli conflict, the Syrian crisis, solidarity with Sudan and the fight against international terrorism.

The delegations stressed the importance of bolstering co-operation between the OIC and other regional and international organisations and groups.

The ministers also discussed the plight of Muslims in Myanmar and condemned the persecution and displacement of Muslim rohingas, urging the OIC to step up international efforts to protect this minority group from genocide. They stressed the need to stop the bloodshed in Syria and explore a settlement conducive to the peaceful handover of power.
