WAYS of upgrading trade union work at Gulf Air were discussed at a meeting yesterday.
This came as assistant under-secretary for labour affairs at the Labour Ministry Dr Mohammed Ali Al Ansari met chairmen of the National Trade Union of Gulf Air (NTUGA) Ahmed Isa Al Kuwaiti and Gulf Air Trade Union (GATU) Habib Al Nabul.
Dr Al Ansari said the ministry supported the role played by trade unions - a fruitful outcome of His Majesty King Hamad's pioneering reform project.
"The government believes in promoting dialogue and social partnership.
"It also believes that activating relationship between the three parts of production is the best way to boost productivity and development," he said.
He hailed the airline's crucial role in supporting the economy and providing jobs to Bahrainis.
The trade unions were also praised for their co-operation and keenness to preserve the labour gains of its national cadres.
Mr Al Kuwaiti and Mr Al Nabul briefed the under-secretary on their programmes and plans for the coming period, noting that protection of workers' rights was their main priority.
They also reiterated support for the company's plans to upgrade its performance, expressing readiness to cooperate with it and help overcome its difficulties.
