A BAHRAIN University professor will attend a major UN summit next month.
Bangladeshi Business College professor Abu Jafar Sufian has been invited to take part in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) +10 to be held from February 25 to 27 at the Unesco headquarters in France.
The event, titled Towards Knowledge Societies for Peace and Sustainable Development, is being organised by the International Telecommunication Union, United Nations Development Programme, United Nations Conference on Trade and Development and Unesco.
Participants include government officials from across the world, the private sector, non-governmental organisations and other groups.
They will assess the progress made by WSIS and discuss the future of Information and Communication Technologies and trends post-2015.
Dr Sufian has published a number of research papers in international journals on population and other social issues, and has written a book on social science research methodology.
He has received scholarships, awards and fellowships to study and attend conferences in India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Canada and the US.
He had also been invited to attend the UN World Summits in Geneva, Switzerland, in 2003, and in Tunisia in 2005.
