Bahrain a land of tolerance...

MANAMA: Bahrain has been - and will always remain - a place where different faiths and religions, sects and ideas have co-existed in tolerance, peace and security throughout history, His Majesty King Hamad said last night.

The King was speaking after receiving at Sakhir Palace, in the presence of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander, religious figures and representatives of religions in the country.

He said Bahrain has set an example of brotherhood, love and peace among all people.

"The essence of co-existence in Bahrain is mainly attributed to the fact that everyone is free to enshrine his religion, hold his identity, and preserve his character.

"This is based on trust and mutual respect among various components of society. It emanates from the desire of Bahrainis to co-operate for the good of the humanity, to deepen mutual understanding between people of other religions and sects, promote human values, and build bridges of humanitarian and cultural co-existence, as stipulated in the Constitution and the National Charter that was passed by a consensus almost a decade ago," His Majesty said.

The call to resume the National Dialogue is a testament to the path followed by the people of Bahrain.

"We wish all participants every success."

His Majesty said the concept of tolerance "should now be expanded to include the community's efforts to promote world and civil peace, to establish security, stability and respect for human rights and public freedom under the Rule of Law and social order."
