GBM completes key university upgrade

MANAMA: Bahrain Business Machines (BBM), the Bahrain division of Gulf Business Machines (GBM), has completed the upgrade of the University of Bahrain's IT infrastructure using IBM PureFlex System.

The project is the first-of-its-kind in the education sector in the GCC region.

The PureFlex System combines compute, storage, networking, virtualisation and management into a single infrastructure system that is an expert at sensing and anticipating resource needs to optimise infrastructure.

Through the built-in expertise and integrated design of IBM PureFlex System, the University of Bahrain will benefit from a simplified IT experience as well as enhanced integrated storage, improved management capabilities and new networking features, GBM said.

"IT plays an integral role in our daily operations. As an educational institute, it is very important to ensure that our IT infrastructure is running smoothly and efficiently," said University of Bahrain information technology centre director Dr Khalid Ahmed Al Mutawah.

"We selected GBM to provide us with technologies that will allow us to fulfil our objectives cost effectively while also exceeding our expectations.

"Through the deployment, the university now will not only enjoy increased efficiency and productivity and more streamlined operations but also significant energy cost reduction," he said.

"The fact that the University of Bahrain is looking to invest in and enhance its IT infrastructure reiterates the importance of technology as well as the benefits and value it brings with it," said BBM general manager Abdulla Ishaq.
