Three jailed for armed robbery

THREE men who robbed a Bangladeshi at knifepoint have each been jailed for 10 years.

The Bahrainis, aged 24, 29 and 35, were convicted of theft and assault by the High Criminal Court yesterday.

It is understood the men were part of a gang that deliberately targeted Asians.

In the most recent attack, the defendants attacked a 29-year-old salesman in Gudaibiya and stole BD115 last October.

The 35-year-old defendant reportedly held a knife against the victim's neck and threatened to stab him if he did not hand over his wallet.

They then threw the wallet in a nearby rubbish bin and police found their fingerprints on it.

The victim also identified the defendants at a police station later.

"I was walking home at 3pm, I just had finished work," the victim told prosecutors.

"Three Bahrainis then came to me and suddenly pushed me and one of them put a knife to my neck.

"I gave them the wallet right away, which had BD115.

"I then identified two of them at a police station and one in a police line up."

The 35-year-old defendant was jailed for five years on Wednesday by the same court for robbing a cold store at knifepoint with two other men and escaping with BD100. According to court documents, he has 39 similar convictions. noorz@gdn.com.bh
