Toyota registers strong growth

MANAMA: Toyota has announced strong growth in the GCC region, selling 158,223 units in first quarter.

This resulted in the brand further consolidating its leadership with a 39.6 per cent market share.

In achieving this performance, Toyota registered a 23pc increase in sales compared with the same period last year.

The growth follows the record sales performance of Toyota last year, which saw sales of more than 593,000 units.

"With our strong lineup of products backed by our acclaimed after-sales service, our impressive sales growth in the first quarter continues the strong momentum in sales at the close of last year," Toyota Motor Corporation Middle East and North Africa representative office chief representative Nobuyuki Negishi said.

Toyota said its emphasis on developing new design and product innovations for vehicles is also having a favourable impact on customers. "With the confidence of our expanding customer base in reliability and product quality and their implicit trust in our brand, I look forward to partnering with our dealers and our staff across the region to continue Toyota's success story," he added.

The company said its sport utility vehicle (SUV) product range did exceptionally well in the first quarter reflecting the demand for this category of vehicles among consumers in the GCC.

Toyota Prado sold 18,443 units to post a 56pc growth in unit sales year-on-year, while the new look RAV4 sold 3,057 units for a 51pc increase in sales during the same period.

In the sedan range, the new Toyota Avalon recorded sales of 3,998 units to register a 58pc increase while the Yaris recorded a 56pc growth in sales at 9,221 units. Toyota introduced the 2013 Avalon in the GCC market in the first quarter. The company also launched the 2013 RAV4.
