Sillman and Jennings emerge winners

PHIL Sillman and Val Jennings clinched first place in their respective categories yesterday on the opening day of play in this year's PGIS Golf Extravaganza played at the Royal Golf Club.

Sillman was crowned the individual stableford event's men's winner after registering a score of 33 points.

Val emerged as the ladies' winner after posting a score of 34 points.

Meanwhile, winning the teams' event was the trio of Steve Litherland, Jim Dickenson and Martin Mulland.

They finished ahead of runners-up Ian Jennings, Mike Gorham, Martin Allison and Sillman; while claiming third place was the team of Nicky Bailey, John McCreary, Jon Parker and Ian Ashbury.

In the Marked Ball Competition, Dave Bailey, Tommy Espero and Tony Kirkman triumphed.

Various side contests were also played throughout the day. Julie Dixon came nearest the pin twice on both the second and 16th holes, while Nicky came closest on hole seven and John Parker came nearest the pin on hole 12.

Neil Henderson then registered the longest drive for hole 15, and Mulland sank the longest putt on hole 18.

The PGIS Golf Extravaganza continues today and the field moves on to play a final 18 holes along the sand course at Awali Golf Club.

Players are scheduled to tee-off at 11am, with a prize-giving and closing ceremony to follow at 6pm.

Pan Gulf Industrial Systems (PGIS), the organisers of the event, are a wholly owned subsidiary of Pan Gulf Holdings. It was formed to provide the Middle East with a Professional Systems Integration Company.

The Pan Gulf Group has been leading the business world in the Middle East for 30 years and is listed in the top 50 Saudi companies.

Companies that are sponsoring this year's event and those who have donated a prize include Remtec, Notifier, Tyco, Chemetron, RMI, ATP, NALCO, McWane, AGAS, Matre Maskin, Fire Trace, Chisholm Enterprise, NHCS, Angus Simpson and Tony Kirkman. Harley Davidson have sponsored a Hole-in-One prize for both days of the competition.
