LEGENDARY rock band the Scorpions will perform at next month's Bahrain F1, organisers confirmed yesterday.
The GDN exclusively revealed last week that the best-selling German band will take to the stage at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) on April 5 - the same day as global superstar and Grammy-nominated DJ Avicii.
However, organisers have yet to decide which act will headline the off-track entertainment during the second day of the Formula One Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix, which kicks off on April 4.
"It is an absolute delight to have rock legends like the Scorpions come to Bahrain and be part of our 10th anniversary Grand Prix celebrations," said BIC chief executive Shaikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa.
"We are truly privileged to have them performing live at BIC on such a momentous occasion, and are confident that both sporting and music fans alike will be treated to yet another unforgettable entertainment spectacle during the race weekend."
The Scorpions were formed in 1965 and have since sold more than 100 million records worldwide, with hits such as Rock You Like a Hurricane, Send Me an Angel and Wind of Change.
The current line-up features Klaus Meine on lead vocals, Rudolf Schenker and Matthias Jabs on the guitars, James Kottak on drums and Pawel Maciwoda on bass.
Popular Saudi singer Rabeh Saqer completes the roster of planned concerts for the weekend with his performance on April 4 at the BIC in Sakhir.
Mr Saqer is one of the biggest names in the Arabic music industry and has a massive fan base across the Middle East, especially in Saudi Arabia.
It is understood no concert has been planned to accompany the final racing day on April 6.
Tickets for the Formula One are now on sale, with prices ranging from BD150 for the Main Grandstand to BD60 for the University and Victory Grandstands.
Discounts are available for children, senior citizens and those with special needs.
All tickets are for all three days of the race weekend and also give access to the three live concerts.
