A SOCIAL media user, who allegedly made defamatory remarks on Twitter, has been released from custody pending his trial.
The Bahraini appeared at the Lower Criminal yesterday to plead not guilty to four separate counts of insulting and slandering people, attacking their honour and reputation and offending Bahraini families using indecent expressions through social media accounts on Twitter and Instagram under the names Al Raqeeb, Ahfad Al Waleed, Ahfad Omar and #mnarfezhom.
Capital Governorate Chief Prosecutor Mohammed Al Maliki earlier said that the suspect, who is in his 30s, had been tracked down and arrested following complaints lodged by public figures - including a member of parliament, a journalist and a political society member.
He was remanded in custody on August 26 and was yesterday released on BD200 bail after he appeared in court for the first time.
The trial was adjourned until August 5 for a second hearing.
