CHAMPION Technologies (CT) 'A' registered a convincing 33-9 victory over Bahrain Rugby Football Club (BRFC) 'A' in their Bahrain Expatriates Netball League game played last night at the Dilmun Club in Saar.
The victors used a strong second-quarter performance to turn a narrow 6-3 lead after the first to a commanding 15-5 advantage at half-time.
They then maintained their sublime passing and intelligent off-the-ball movement to take a 28-7 lead after the third period, and then cruised in the final quarter to come away with the well-deserved 24-goal win.
Kate Knapton was named the Player of the Match for the victors, while Sheran Hujair was the top performer for BRFC 'A'.
"It was a tough match but an important win for us because now we move to solo second on the standings, so we are assured of a top-three finish," Knapton told the GDN.
"They matched us well in the first two quarters, but we were able to pull away in the second half. We didn't really make any adjustments after half-time, but I believe we just settled into the game and were able to seal the win from there."
CT 'A' earned the full three points and now have 19 on the table behind only British Club 'A' who are first with 21.
The leaders were not in action last night. BRFC 'A' stay third with 16 points.
Also winning yesterday were CT 'B', who registered a one-sided 43-3 rout of sister-team CT Social.
CT 'B' clamped down defensively from the start and held their rivals to just one goal in the first half while racing out to score 23. They built a 34-2 advantage after three periods, and finally closed out the contest with another nine goals while conceding just one more.
Zoe McMurdo was adjudged the best player for the winners, while Lindsey Williams came away with the top marks for CT Social.
Meanwhile, Dilmun Social defeated sister-squad Dilmun 'A' 31-6 in another league contest last night.
Player of the Match Sue Hall helped the Dilmun Social take a quick 9-1 lead at the end of the first period, and they never looked back.
They had a 16-2 lead at the break, which they built to 24-4 heading into the final period. Kat Croot was the top player for Dilmun 'A'.
Finally, BRFC 'B' won against Sri Lanka Club by default as the Lankans were short of players to start the game. BRFC 'B' automatically came away with a 15-0 result and all three points.
League action continues Tuesday next week at the BRFC in Saar.
The final day will be on February 5, after which the league's upper tier squads move on to play in a premier division, while the lower-ranked teams play each other in a separate group.
